Good vs Evil

I hope you like it.

Download it for full quality and details. I don't want your screen to go berserk when you do full-size on the website.

Description:

This was my .. well.. the embodiment of the conclusion I came to upon thinking about the subject.

Good is white, evil is black. That's just the colors I chose since .. well.. you know why. The background is neutral, gray.

In my point of view, Evil is direct. Sure, its ways may be subtle, but its purpose is certain. Hence the spikes. It knows where to strike.

Good on the other hand, does not attack. What you see is good trying to convert evil. Good embraces everything.

When Evil hits good, in my view, it corrupts it, and shatters it, like cracks on the floor. Then, it feeds off of it to grow. So the cracks serve a double purpose as "roots".

When good "hits" evil, it tries to convert evil by calling attention to the good things around it. It's the "optimist's point of view". To good, a lot of things are proof of good. Life, light, sound, taste, smell, touch...(hence the small white blobs involving the black touched by white) These are also the things it uses to grow (hence the big white blobs of good heading towards it's most dense spot)

I decided to go pure white vs black, but found the image lacking some... energy... and shape. So I turned to two other colors that are used to symbolize good and evil, the angel-blue and the devil-red.

The blue appears generally in turning white waves, and I tried to make it so it looks like.. imagine the light is in the top-right corner. The blue is the anti-shine of the good. It isn't supposed to be a shadow. It's supposed to underline the fact that good is always good, even on its dark side it shines (kind of like the thing how angels have no back).

The red appears in core black areas and "fueling" the "spores" leaving the black. It symbolizes to me, the true evil, the mad-evil. You know, the guy with the evil eyes and the hysteric laugh that just lost his humanity...

Well, this is my work. I don't intend to mix it with religion, or people even for that fact. The explanations I used were simply to exemplify something that I can't quite put into words. I went only for the concepts of good and evil.

Also, good and evil is, in my opinion, a never-ending battle, which goes on in every aspect of our existence. as one, as more than one, as a whole. Humanity, and even Nature demonstrates both sides of the battle raging fiercely.

I also put up a progress-video on youtube which you can find at: [link]

I'm sorry for this long description. I just thought I'd share it with you. If you like it, take some time to fav it, since I'm in this contest for a reason ;) though it was great fun doing this.

I'd like to thank all my friends for their opinions on it.

Done with a Wacom Bamboo Fun medium, Photoshop CS2.
Took me about 2 weeks to finish bit by bit (really a lot of details for an amateur like me.. I work slow).

By far the best abstract depiction of order and chaos I have ever seen. I am in love with this, I hope you don't mind, but I am researching abstract depictions of good and evil for my honors project, would you mind if I mentioned your picture in my reports? This is really cool!

Hello, its a beautiful picture, really I love it. But I have to ask I'm writing a book about the struggles between good and evil really, and how the main hero has to over come the darkness planted before before it consumes her. And I need a cover, I was wondering if you'd be willing to let me use your picture for the cover. I would deeply appreciate it. If not then thats fine to. e-mail me your awnser if you would at Dragon_Wing_Fire101@Yahoo.com. Please and thank you. n_n.

I saw you were sad about the chosen winners of the contest - when I read your long description and the thoughts you put in the theme I think I can understand you. Don't be sad any more, nobody was even interested in my thoughts - or in the thoughts of so many other artists - to the subject, too.
Creativity was obviously not the most important fact for chosing...

heheh :P
That's so sweet of you. I wasn't expecting to win anything. The sheer volume of submissions was astounding. Besides I have no technical skills. I liked my concept a lot, but I admit it may be wasted on my skills ;) But the winners... I don't think many of them even had a decent concept.

but that's old news now. At least I did another work ;) and it was fun.

Thanks again ;)

If I was succsessful in comforting you a bit, I achieved what I wanted. :)

I didn't expected to win anything at all, too, but I am very disappointed about the lack of creativity and originality in the winning paintings - the judges should have given more interest on that.
But I won't complain any longer. I have to accept, that true art isn't wanted in this world - this contest is the proof in my eyes. Nowadays everything has to look nice and pretty and really nobody is interested in the thoughts behind. :(

Even if you didn't have much skills I think it is quite a nice piece you did. Keep it up. ;)

Anyway, art isn't in this contests and stuff. I even just participated cause I visualized this image as soon as I read the contest title.

Oh, then it is not too bad for you. :) I was foolish enough to put a whole evening and another morning on thinking over the subject. ^^

yeah, but it took me like 2 to 3 weeks of over 3 hours a day working on the piece, some days were totally used up in it. That's a lot of time. But I have no regrets. I like how it is.
